Another view from our garden. As you can see, we have our own viewing point, the only difference with the previous topic being that we are overlooking walnut orchards in stead of vineyards. Yesterday afternoon it was particularly nice with a very clear rainbow."Les Catalpas" was our little paradise in France. (Since July 2011 we are back in the Netherlands.)

Wine country
View over the Lot valley from Bélaye
My brother and his wife joined us for new year's eve and the first week of January. A good time for some sightseeing and going to the Lot valley to buy the famous Cahors wine, Malbec as it should be. We usually go to Chateau Latuc, run by a Belgian family. Very much recommended.Their (pricey) white wines, which are very unusual in the Cahors area, are comparable with good Burgundys.
The picture is from Bélaye, a superb viewing point.

Pub
Pub, French, short for publicité. Since we have the privilige to live in such a nice (touristic) area, we might as well make some "publicité" or advertisement.
This medieval castle, Chateau de Fenelon, is just around the corner of where we live. The setting is just great. Come and see for yourselves!
A little anecdote: When we first arrived here we saw a sign just in front of the local watering hole: "pas de pub". We thought: the French don't know how to write English and we both wondered why we had to pass the pub. But it simply means, please no advertisement leaflets in my letterbox. (pas de publicité)

Miepje, daughter of Minoes
Cèpes / Porcini / Eekhoorntjesbrood
The cèpes are very early this year, after a very wet and thundery week. We had about 130mm of rain! The Dordogne, normally crystal clear, is now a river of mud.
Tonight we will enjoy the cèpes with fried new potatoes and a nice piece of Quercy lamb.

Spring is here
The past couple of days we had the cranes migrating north. It's the talk of the village, "Spring is here". When you are at the bakery everybody talks about it and asks one another if they saw or heard them. It really is a warming sight.
Tens of thousands of these large birds migrate from the south of Spain to Scandinavia. They make a stopover near an artificial lake east of Paris where they get fed (not that the French are birdlovers, they rather shoot them, but to avoid damage to farms). For birdwatchers a real treat.
